UdyamGita

Vibhūti Yoga

Chapter 10 - Verse 21
आदित्यानामहं विष्णुर्ज्योतिषां रविरंशुमान् |
मरीचिर्मरुतामस्मि नक्षत्राणामहं शशी || 21||

Translation

Among the twelve Adityas, I am Vishnu. Among all radiant objects,
I am Ravi (Sun). I am Marichi among the Marut deities. I am The Moon
among the constellations of the stars in the night sky (Resident in the Sun,
Marichi, and the Moon, I grant them superiority among their peers).

Unfiltered First Take

An entrepreneur should be humane and should step into any role to do the much needed work. He should be an influencer in such a way that every employee becomes a representation of him and works like him. He should be the one who guides people to do the right things at the right time. The whole business revolves around him, hence he should have clear vision, focus, and intent. He should be the one who can stand against the tide and direct the team on how to deal with adverse situations. He is the guiding light during dark hours, soothing, guiding, and ensuring that he is with everyone until the darkness lasts. He will show different phases to ensure the team can work with or without him, with or without his light, or with any amount of light. At the end of the day, the team should be able to succeed even without his guidance.

UdyamGita Interpretation

Krishna explains that within every category, there is a guiding presence—Vishnu among the Adityas, the Sun among luminous bodies, Marichi among the winds, and the Moon among the stars. These are not about dominance, but direction. Each represents leadership that sustains, illuminates, and regulates without noise.

The verse highlights a timeless principle: systems function smoothly when a steady guiding force is present at the center.

Business Insight

An entrepreneur is the guiding force of the business ecosystem.

A true founder is not confined to a title. When needed, they step into any role—doing what must be done, not what is glamorous. Their influence is such that employees become living representations of the founder’s values, decisions, and work ethic.

The business revolves around the entrepreneur’s clarity of vision, focus, and intent. When this inner compass is strong, the organization naturally aligns. When it wavers, confusion spreads.

Entrepreneurs must also be willing to stand against the tide—especially during adversity. In uncertain markets, crises, or internal turbulence, the founder becomes the reference point for calm, direction, and resolve.

Leadership Lesson

Great leaders know when to shine and when to soothe.

Like the sun, founders provide energy, momentum, and clarity during growth phases. Like the moon, they offer reassurance and guidance during dark hours—staying with the team through uncertainty until clarity returns.

Mature leadership also evolves through phases. Founders must gradually reduce dependence on themselves—training teams to operate with less guidance, less light, and eventually, without them at the center.

The ultimate success of leadership is not being indispensable, but making the organization self-sustaining. When teams can succeed even in the leader’s absence, leadership has truly fulfilled its purpose.

Key Takeaways

  • Entrepreneurs lead by influence, not position.
  • A founder’s clarity becomes the organization’s compass.
  • Strong leaders stand firm during adversity and guide calmly.
  • Leadership shifts between energizing and stabilizing roles.
  • The highest form of leadership creates independence, not dependence.
