UdyamGita

Jnana Yoga

Chapter 4 - Verse 3
स एवायं मया तेऽद्य योग: प्रोक्त: पुरातन: |
भक्तोऽसि मे सखा चेति रहस्यं ह्येतदुत्तमम् || 3||

Translation

The same ancient supreme and secretive knowledge has been
imparted to you by Me, for you are both a devotee and a friend to Me.

Unfiltered First Take

A business owner should not disclose everything to everyone. They should understand the maturity of the person and their background before revealing sensitive information or sharing deep thoughts and facts. Many times, people may not keep the information safe. Other times, they may twist facts and figures before sharing them further. Most importantly, they may not even understand the depth and seriousness of the subject and may carry that information to any level with anyone.

Even for the same news, a business owner must share different levels of information with people at different hierarchies. They should share most details with the board and core team, convert that information into execution level guidance for managers, and share business group specific information with each business unit. This way, everyone understands what is in it for them and what their next set of actions should be. If this level of information division is not maintained, there will be unnecessary chaos, confusion, and demotivation in the organization.

For any information, it is important to first be clear about what should be shared with which group of people and based on their maturity level. For example, if a team is relatively new, a more detailed explanation may be needed. If the group is relatively experienced, crisp and clear information with basic explanation is sufficient.

Also, while sharing information, one should make the person in front feel special by clearly stating why they are chosen, highlighting their qualities for receiving this information, and showing trust in them. This encourages the person to put in effort to understand the information with interest, leading to clarity. Preparing the mental and intellectual foundation well before training them on any subject is essential.

UdyamGita Interpretation

Krishna makes a powerful distinction here. The knowledge is ancient and universal, yet He chooses Arjuna as the recipient. Why? Not because Arjuna is the most senior or the most powerful—but because he is both a devotee and a friend. Wisdom is not merely to be transmitted; it must be entrusted to someone prepared to receive it.

This verse reveals an important truth: all knowledge is not meant for all audiences, at all times, in the same form.

Business Insight

In business, transparency does not mean indiscriminate disclosure. A founder who shares everything with everyone risks chaos, misinterpretation, and leakage of sensitive intent.

Different people process information differently:

  • Some may not have the context to grasp its seriousness
  • Some may distort it unintentionally
  • Some may share it irresponsibly

Even the same business update must be communicated at different depths:

  • Board & core team: strategic intent, risks, and long-term implications
  • Managers: execution-level clarity and priorities
  • Functional teams: role-specific actions and outcomes

When information is not layered thoughtfully, organizations experience confusion, insecurity, and demotivation.

Leadership Lesson

Great leaders are also great curators of information.

Before sharing anything, a business owner must ask:

  • Who is ready to hear this?
  • What level of depth is appropriate?
  • What action should this information trigger for them?

Equally important is how the information is shared. When a leader explicitly acknowledges why someone is being trusted—highlighting their maturity, capability, or contribution—it creates ownership. People rise to the responsibility they are given.

Prepare the mind before delivering the message. Build intellectual and emotional readiness before training or decision-making begins.

Key Takeaways

  • Not all information is for all people.
  • Layer communication by maturity, role, and responsibility.
  • Strategic clarity prevents organizational chaos.
  • Make people feel trusted when sharing critical information.
  • Prepare minds before transmitting knowledge.
